Garments that require a bit of body but still benefit from a fluid drape
Oversized fitting silhouettes like maxi dresses, quilted coats, bath robes, overalls, smock style tops, fringed shawls, and wraps
Home goods like tablecloths, napkins, tea towels, cushion covers, and simple throws
Shrinkage Expectation:
Across one yard:
Approximately 3/4” on width
Approximately 1 to 1 1⁄2” on length
*Note that an approximate 1⁄4” of fray on each edge is in addition to shrinkage loss
Sewing:
A seam allowance of 1⁄2” or more is recommended
Needle size should be at least 11/75 and make sure you are using a fresh, sharp needle
A standard 50wt thread and a slightly normal to small stitch length (2.2 or 2.8) works well for seams
Finishing seam allowance edges with serger or zigzag stitch can prevent excessive fray. You may also consider exploring encasing your seams with a bound seam technique or a french seam
