Mail Call Sew Along

Our own Paula Newquist has graciously said she will lead a sew along for us!

"I am so excited to help everyone to sew on their Mail Call quilt tops. This is such a wonderful quilt. Terri Vanden Eosch has shared so much wonderful information throughout the designing and making of this quilt. She shares how much letters mean to us when we are so far away from our loved ones. One of the quotes she shared is, “To send a letter is a good way to go somewhere without moving anything but your heart. Phyllis Therou. I will be sharing some of the background on Terri’s design choices as well as the techniques needed to work on each month’s blocks.
We plan to have a series of sew alongs to coordinate with the Mail Call BOM. At each sew along we will be working on the skills that will be needed for the current month. I will let you know what supplies you will need for that particular month sew along.
At this time we have scheduled sew alongs for Fridays, May 8, June 12, and July 10, from 10:30 to 1:30. Please sign up for each of them. Paula"

Month 1: May 8, you will need your 1st month’s packet. If you want to pre starch fabrics that is fine, but not necessary. Do not cut them ahead of time.
Scissors, both small snips and fabric scissors are helpful.
Some way of identifying fabrics, either 1 to 15 or A to O or whatever other system works for you. I used post it notes and fabric clips to label all the fabrics so that I don’t get confused as I go along from month to month.
Quilting rulers, I use a variety of rulers, We will be cutting with of fabric and the sub cutting small pieces, I love a ruler that is about 6” by 12” and then a smaller ruler. For this month we will be oversizing blocks and trimming to 2 ½” squares and making flying geese.
If you have a flying geese ruler bring it, I will be demonstrating several ways to make flying geese and I will demonstrate the Wing Clipper, by Studio 180.
I also love the Tucker trimmer and will demonstrate it.
