Classes


This exciting class will start you at the very basics of quilting. You will learn how to purchase the right fabrics and tools, how to use a rotary cutter, a ruler, how to sew a 1/4" seam, piece a quilt top, and how to put on a border. Finally you will finish your quilt using your domestic machine, then bind and label your project. Denise loves teaching entry level classes and brings her joy to each and every class. She will pull out all kinds of tips and tricks to make this class worthwhile, even to a quilter with experience.

Longarm Machine Rental Training Class

Would you like to make your quilt from start to finish including quilting it yourself? Well now you can!! This class will give you all of the training needed to get started quilting your own quilts. Class size is limited to allow more one on one time and each student will work on their own hand guided machine.

Goodnight Star with Linda Snellgrove

Are you intimidated by Quiltworx quilts? We have just the thing to get your started on the right track! The Goodnight Star layout includes foundation papers to make 24 16" quarter lone star blocks. The pattern was designed by Judy and Bradley Niemeyer and creates an introductory pattern that can be used to learn basic paper piecing techniques required for many of the lone star projects. This class is designed to be a two part class with instruction to help you feel comfortable with the Quiltworx way of doing things.

Free Motion Quilting with Elaine Poplin

In this class, students will get more comfortable with using the INNOVA machines for free motion quilting. Elaine will focus first on simple swirls and meanders, and work up to free motion feathers and flowers as students get more confident. You should leave this class with several universal free motion designs in your repertoire, and a greater belief in your abilities as a quilter.

If you've hesitated about sewing curves before, this is a great low-stress introduction. The Quick Curve Ruler is a very versatile ruler and there are lots of patterns that use it.

In this class, you will learn how to cut and baste paper pieces, as well as how to hand sew a small bowl. We will address fussy cutting, glue basting, and whipstitching the bowl by hand.

Ease into Improv with Elaine Poplin

Other improv techniques (curves, wonky stars, incorporating improv curves into half-square triangles) will be shown as time allows.

Raw Edge Applique with Denise Reuter

We will be learning the blanket stitch and triple straight stitch applique in this beginner class. This is an introductory machine applique class so you may use the Mod Squad quilt pattern, a different simple applique pattern from Sweet Home Quilting or for the DIY quilter print a bulky coloring book picture. This is a really fun class!

Hand Embroidery 101 with Judy Ballance

You will learn how to sew the wool pieces to a background fabric of your choice. Once the wool is stitched down you will learn all of the basic hand embroidery stitches required to embellish this kit. Instructions will also be provided to make the kit into a needle book.
